The Perfume Bottles: The perfume sections — Floral, French, and Later (Avon) Fragrances — are set up a bit differently than other product areas under the CP Products banner. These sections do not include prices. Many of the early floral perfumes were put up in one, two, four, eight (half-pint), and sixteen (pint) ounce bottles. The early French perfumes were also put up in these standard sizes as well as a Trial Size (one quarter ounce) and half ounce size. During the Avon era, the company began using "dram" sizes — specifically two and seven dram bottles. All this is to say, there are too many pricing possibilities to show beneath each bottle, therefore, the fragrance, the approximate date, and the bottle size will be the primary information provided with each picture. Additionally, as indicated in other sections of the web site, the earliest California Perfume Company catalogs did not depict all of the company's products. The first catalog was produced in 1896, ten years after the company's start, and contained only text: no illustrations. The 1897 through 1900 catalogs did contain sparse hand-drawn illustrations. Not until 1915 were most of their products illustrated in their Color Plate catalogs, and even then, not 100%. Couple this with the fact that early catalogs would keep the same product picture for many years, though bottle and/or label style(s) would have changed.
