Powders: California Perfume Company sales lists dating back to 1893/1894 show only two powder products: Sweet Sixteen Powder (no color specified) and Sachet Powder (no fragrance specified.) The 1896 catalog and an 1896 representative's order form reveal the addition of Glove Powder to the company's sales line up; however this addition was short lived in that Glove Powder was removed from all later publications. Also in 1896, the company expanded Sweet Sixteen Powder to include shades of pink, white, and brunette, while the Sachet Powder was made available in fragrances of Heliotrope, White Rose, and Violet. Lastly, in 1899 introduced California Hygiene Face Powder to its continually growing inventory. These earliest powder products are mentioned here because the California Perfume Company provided no illustrations of these items...and thus far, no extant examples have surfaced. Happy hunting! |
