Redeemable Certificates and Coupons
The February 1910 Outlook,
available for
view on the Hagley Museum and Library Web Site, announced on its
front page, "A New, Novel, Unselfish Idea." The accompanying short
article stated that, "[on] and after Monday, February 14th, 1910, The
California Perfume Company will issue certificates to be given to
customers with all CP goods, according to amount purchased—a 25 cent
certificate with a 25 cent article, 50 cent certificate with a 50 cent
article, $1.00 certificate with a $1.00 article, etc. These certificates
[are] to be given by the purchaser to any church, hospital, orphan home
or other charitable organization, and redeemable in cash by the
authorized officer of such institution for five percent (5%) of their
face valves when presented in amours of Twenty Dollars ($20.00) or more.
In effect until further notice.
