The incredible entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated by David H. McConnell, the bold, enterprising zeal of Mrs. P.F.E. Albee, and the critical partnership established with Alexander D. Henderson, were the creational forces that initiated and nurtured one of the most powerful and influential American perfumes and toiletries manufacturing companies operated within the past two centuries! The California Perfume Company was much more than simply a "manufacturing company" that generated wealth for the owners, board members, and stock holders. McConnell's endeavor enabled women during a time when women were second-class citizens, well before women's suffrage. The California Perfume Company helped women, and men, generate substantial income—income that purchased homes, and automobiles, and provided for the staples of life. It empowered women and allowed them to take firm control and responsibility for their lives and that of their families. As can be observed in the annuals of history, McConnell envisioned and built the company for women! And true to the founder's vision, the company's successor, Avon Products, Inc., continues in that spirit throughout the world today!

D. H. McConnell, Sr. fully understood that the life-blood of his company WAS the people!
